Short History of World Food Day

World Food Day was created by the World Food Safety Initiative (WFSI). This international organization brings together the agriculture, industry, nutrition and environment to address the growing problem of malnutrition and other related issues.

Since the organization was formed in 1993, there have been a number of different ways in which the issue of hunger has been discussed and responded to. There have been different events that have brought different views and new initiatives. In fact, World Food Day originated from the efforts of Dr. Mahajan, who is an Indian immunologist and health consultant.

World Food Day (WFD) was established by FAO’s Member Countries at the Organization’s 20th General Conference in November 1979. The Hungarian Delegation, led by the former Hungarian Minister of Agriculture.
